Credit Cards!!!

So my USAA cards are en route, and I am so happy. Those are secured, two accounts (one for me one for my husband) and those will report to all three bureaus. We will set each other up as authorized users on each account once they arrive.

I also got my First Premier account reopened!! That is an unsecured card, and has high fees, but its a small card that is totally worth it! I am going to treat it like gold, and get my husband set up as an authorized user once I get my card in the mail. This one will also report to all credit bureaus.

I sent in Goodwill letters to some closed accounts on both our credit, asking for them to remove their lates, or remove the trade line completely. It will be nie to see them go away, that is for sure. One is the public record on my husband's credit. It was done in Washington, and I am not even sure what exactly its for, but its been satisfied, and I am hoping they will just remove it since it really does not need to be there any longer. Fingers crossed.

Nice surprise!

So I was going through today's version of the credit reports, and on my husband's I see there are some accounts missing. Just gone. I have not received word from any of them, so I go onto the old version, and pull up my spreadsheet.

Sure enough!! Continental finance is gone! Arrow Financial is gone! First Premier Bank is gone! That is nice to see some headway being made.

I am going to send out some new rounds of PFDs today to see if I can get anyone else to budge. I am also going to fix my spreadsheet to reflect the correct accounts. Here is everything as it stands today:

Company Owed Expected Removal $$$ Owed Plan to Pay?
Certified Recovery System 5/1/2011 $305.00 Y
United Compucredit 4/1/2012 $67.00 Y

Credit Management 4/1/2012 $972.00 Y

The list is getting smaller!! Its so nice to see a lot of it going away. Especially in surprise moments like today!

4 of a kind beats all

I got notification in the mail today, the 4th AFNI account has been unverified, and determined to be one that needs to come off the reports. Got the letter today, went online and pulled my latest reports and it is already off one report and in the process of coming off the other reports!! YEA!!! AFNI is completely and totally gone and I never have to worry about them again!

I also got notification from FNCC that they had sold their account to Midland, which I was pretty sure of. But FNCC was still reporting a balance, so they corrected their entry on the credit reports to read correctly that there is a zero balance. Once I get everything paid and cleared with Midland I will goodwill letter FNCC and hopefully get them to remove the entry.

Verizon wrote back and said that their accounts were correct, which seems odd to me because I actually asked them for account information, not for them to just tell me that they think they are right. So I have to fight with them and see what I can get done there. I had put their name on Planet Feedback, and got a response saying they wanted me to call in. I am not going to call in, but I still have not heard from anyone on anything, so I guess I will keep emailing and see if someone can connect with me online for fast resolution.

This week I have to start tackling CPS and Santander. This will not make me happy, but eventually I have to get them taken care of one way or another. :( They are the two biggest accounts effecting my husband's and my credit. We'll see how this goes! It should be just as easy as a small $75 bill, but its not. Santander is a company I have not had to deal with yet, so they are foreign and I have no idea how they are going to respond. CPS is the devil incarnate. They are evil, rude, mean, and unwilling to work with us on making things easy. I have to have a lawyer deal with them, because honestly they worry me.

GONE!

Just pulled today's credit reports.

3 AFNI accounts - Completely gone
Gulf Coast Collections - Completely gone
Financial Credit Services - Completely gone
United Compucredit - Completely gone
BCA Collections - Completely gone

7 collection accounts have completely disappeared from my credit report!!! I am so happy! And I was unable to go get the mail yesterday, plus I am late in getting it today, so who knows what goodies await me there! This is so much fun to do this...i know...weird, right?

Now I have to look at the reports and see who to tackle next. I am a little perplexed as to why I have not received much of a response from my husband's reports and collections. I am sure we will eventually, though.

Monday, February 1, 2010

Well, ok then!!

The account with AFNI, the one that they stated they had verified and wanted me to pay? I got a letter in the mail today saying that the account is closed and they are instructing the credit reporting agencies to remove it!!!

WOOHOOO!!!

Two more to go with that company and then I will be done!

BCA is officially completely gone from all three credit reports. I am so happy!!! My check is in the mail to them and could not be more ecstatic.

I got a response from Continental Finance saying they were not required to validate a debt because they were not a collection agency, and they needed all of my information to verify what account my husband held with them. Well that is BS. It sounds like they cannot find our account. We never had an account with them anyway so this whole entry is bogus. I am sending them another letter giving them that info, and telling them they have to provide me with the info so I can file a police report as to the fraud. We'll see if they answer that.

TransUnion is saying we did not provide enough info in our dispute letter we sent. I am not happy with them. They are saying we have not provided enough information to identify ourselves in order for them to work on my dispute. Now I have to get tons more stuff to prove our address. They require too much work.

Experian has said they validated the Santander account. That is absolute BS because the account is not valid. So I am going to get my lawyer on the Santander account. They will have to remove it eventually.

2 more down!!!

Went to pick up the mail today. Found a pretty little green card waiting for me, then I saw there was a nice stack of letters. Again, so weird to be excited over hearing back from collection agents.

First one I open, its from Hooters. I was denied for their credit card. Boo. I so wanted a hooters card!! lol I will call for a reconsideration when I get a few more things taken off. I see they check TransUnion only and that seems to update pretty well.

Second I open is from United Compucredit. They have no validation information for me and are deleting!!! YAY! One bill I don't have to pay, although it was not huge.

Next thing I open is a letter from AFNI. They have verified my 199 Verizon debt, and want to see it paid. Ok, no prob. Now that I have validation then I can deal with them correctly. I prepared a letter with another PFD offer, asking them to consider a PFD for full payment. Hopefully this time they will read the letter.

Next I open a thin envelope. Its from ANFI again! Its about the bellsouth account! They can't validate so they are removing the account from the credit reports!!! Another one I don't have to pay! Yippeee!!

Then I open a letter from BCA. Its the itemized bill from Disney world. I am not sure if it was paid, but now I have the info to go back to my bank and search records. I have already set up a PFD with them, so that is easy for me to just file away.

Its so nice to be getting this stuff taken care of. It feels so good to see things come off.

I love green cards!!!

I got 4 more in the mail today. I am only missing them from a few collectors now. I can't wait to have them all. It just ensures that I have proof they received my communication.

It seems some collectors are confused with the PFD. They think I want to dispute everything, but really I am just trying to pay them off for the most part and get it all cleared off the reports. Its very simple, but they are making it complicated. I am not sure why. Its not that complicated.

I sent emails to ANFI to see if they will accept my PFD through the electronic media. I know they received the paper letter, because I have their green cards. So I figure now any communication in writing is good. I will still require an email stating they are going to remove the trade lines once I pay. They have responded stating they are going to investigate. I sent another email today letting them know I wanted to be sure they knew I wanted to pay off the debts in full. Lets hope they respond well. :)

I am going to hunt for other email addresses to see if I can get through to anyone else electronically.

Success!!!

Omg, can it be true? I found a collection agency I actually respect!!!

And this woman earned my respect! Tammy at Financial Credit Services responded to my PFD. She told me that it was not something they could do, but because the address they had on file was an old one, and I never received the dunning notice, it allowed her to remove the trade line on my report. She is doing that along with me paying that account, and two others not on my credit, in full!!

I love this woman!! HORRAY FOR TAMMY!!! This is what happens when you work with the client and try to make things work out. You get paid! Immediately!!

I am so happy. It feels so good to make progress, and to see that there are people willing to work towards an amicable solution.

Financial Services, you rock in my book!!!

Don't you want my money?

On a lark I spoke to one of my collection agencies on the phone. Wanted to see if I could get a name of someone to address my letters to so I could maybe build a relationship and get this PFD done fast. Wow, just wow.

After him telling me that they only accepted checks over the phone (not safe and since I have not had to deal with paper checks in over 4 years I could not even tell you what my routing number is) and also him telling me that the trade lines had been removed from my credit (still checking my daily report...still on there) I told him that if he wanted to get this paid, all he needed to do was to send me the PFD like I originally asked, and that I looked forward to him sending it to me. After I hung up I sent an email to the CEO, and will send out more PFD letters to the agency to see if any other agents bite. One of them is going to want my commission, and entries on the internet have told me that they accept PFDs. I just want to pay them. It would be nice if we could come to an agreement on this. I am not mad about him lying, its what his job is all about. (Not that its legal, but I expect no different)

I have received most of the green cards back on the accounts I have. I have also received extra collection accounts being added to my credit reports. LOL Those will have to be taken care of. One step at a time. This is not a quick process, even thought I want it to be. Eventually everything will be whittled away and things will be removed. It will be nice to pay everything off.

I know that some of my creditors are reading my blog, so to you I would like to say this now:

I WANT TO PAY YOU! JUST GIVE ME THE PFD LETTER AND YOU WILL BE PAID. WHETHER OR NOT I OWE THE DEBT IS IRRELEVANT TO ME. LETS JUST GET THIS DONE SO YOU CAN BE PAID AND WE CAN GET ON WITH OUR LIVES.

Thanks. hehehe

Got 4 more!

We received 4 more "green cards" in the mail this weekend. (Green cards are the return receipts from the certified mail return receipt requested mailings) Its amazing how excited I am to get the mail everyday now. LOL I was even sad that there was no mail delivery on Sunday. So I am hoping that means we will have a lot of mail today. :) lol Dorky, I know. But in the past I was never excited about the mail. In fact, because we have our mail setup with a postal store, I would often let my mail sit in the box for a month at a time. No need to get it, I knew it was just more collection notices, and my utilities were always paid online. Now I can't wait to get the mail, and I am really excited to hear from a collection agency. hahaha Who would have ever imagined it?

My husband and I went looking around housing neighborhoods this weekend, jsut to get a feel for what the prices are now. We were surprised at how affordable some of the homes are now. Especially in nice planned communities. We also spent the time discussing the things we want to use our credit for (responsibly) and the things we have wanted but never been able to get.

New Home (in our name)- We want to build a home if possible, with a builder in a community, but have the option to choose our own finishes.

New Cars (in our name)- We have new cars now, but my husband wants a BMW while I am happy to stick with my trusty VW.

Disney Vacation Club - We are MAJOR Disney people. We spend at least two long vacations (a week at a time) at Disney world, staying on property, and just having a blast. The Disney Vacation Club would actually be a huge savings to us, and we would be able to stay in a really nice 1 bedroom suite every time. This is something we are very excited about being able to do.

Its sad, when you sit down and really account for it, all of the things that you cannot do when you do not have credit. We have money, just enough to get almost anything we want cash down. But credit opens up a whole new world that we have been ignoring for a long time. I am so glad we are fixing this.

And the hits just keep on coming!

So far I have received return receipts for the following companies:

Certegy, Financial Credit Services, MAF Collection, Certified Recovery, Enhanced Recovery

I am so excited!! I can't wait to hear if any of them accept my contract or not. I really hope they do!!

This afternoon I printed out an application for my husband for a secured card through US Bank. Its supposed to be a really good secured card. The problem is their regular secured card is not available in Florida, so I had to go with the card that was nationwide which is the SKYPASS airline mile card through Korean Air. We might not fly to Korea, but we can definitely use their partners, and use it for hotels and shopping too. The APR is better than the basic secured card, but the annual fee is $15 more a year. Its alright. Right now I don't mind paying a little bit more for the credit.

So a recap of where we are.

Secured Credit accounts will be reporting on our credit soon: New Millennium Visa, New Millennium Master Card, US Bank SKYPASS Visa, USAA Visa

5 return receipts are back from creditors, no one has sent back contracts yet.

Home is currently still in foreclosure because the owner has not made a payment on it since February 09. Our lease is still valid, and the owner is not asking us to make payments until the home mortgage is either modified or the bank takes the home back. The courts are backed up, so we are using this time of no rental payment to put all of our money into savings, cleaning up the credit, and other stuff.

First Receipt Returned!

Its wonderful how fast the mail system delivers mail now days. LOL

I received my first return receipt and it feels so good. Will my letter even be looked at or read? Most likely not the first one, but the fact hat the ball is in the collection agency's court now feels good. I am doing something finally, and it feels good to be in the power position.

Also, I got word that the USAA pilot program for their secured cards has begun. It was a post on a very wonderful forum, so I am hoping its true. I have emailed the credit card division to see what is being said, and if I can get in I am going to get a card for both my husband and myself. Yay!!! Its so exciting!

Hopefully today when I go to the mailbox there will be a lot of new return receipts. And hopefully next week I will see some letters from these companies. Fingers crossed.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Finally!

I got our scores!!! They are not great, but not bad either. And they are up from 2 years ago which is really nice because I basically did nothing over the last two years. So here they are:

Starting Score: Hers: 3/08 TU-525 EX-504 EQ-524, His: 3/08 TU-571 EX-533 EQ-527
Current Score: Hers: 1/10 TU-579 EX-572 EQ-549, His: 1/10 TU-576 EX-565 EQ-563

And now we have our bank accounts with USAA which gives me a ton of piece of mind. I want to develop a relationship with that bank because we later want to try and get our mortgage with them, as well as our life insurance and property and car insurance.

I did apply for a few credit cards that were unsecured, and got denied for them all. :( It was stupid for me to apply, but I figured I would give it a shot with the scores and see what might happen. I also put in our application for secured cards with New Millennium. I have paid the fees, and now I am just waiting to get the cards and info on how to fund our accounts. I got two cards (Visa and MC) under my name, and added my husband as an Authorized User. I will do the same with him under his name, me being the Authorized user, once I can see that they report the two cards separately. It is very important that they report separately, and if they do not then I will likely close down the master card and keep the Visa, and move my security money to a different bank.

I also sent out the last of the letters this morning. We have everything organized and ready for the next round of letters. Let me tell you, organization is the key to all of this!!! We went to Staples and bought a little plastic file box, some file folders and file hangers, a big box of security envelopes, a ream of paper, ink for the printer, and a multi use stamp for stamping all dates on our copies. Its a bit of an expense, but those things are so important to keep everything in line. Whether you have two baddie trade lines or 200, you have to be organized to get this task accomplished. I have all of the trade lines I want taken care of entered into a data sheet on excel. I have a file folder for each account so I can keep copies of all correspondence. I am keeping a copy of every letter I write stapled to the return receipt in those files in case I need to dispute anything. And I have estimated how much it is going to cost to pay for deletion on all of my trade lines I want gone and set that aside in my accounts. That way I can ensure the day the company says "yes, we will delete your bad entry" I can rush out and send them the certified funds for that account.

Well, sadly we are now in the wait-and-see timeframe. I hate this part. I want things to happen so fast. Its frustrating to not have it happen quicker. All of my letters are sent out and I have absolutely no idea who is going to respond and who is going to ignore. I don't even know if anyone is going to accept my PFD offer. I sure hope they do, but who knows. Its so much to work on, and I just want to be successful with it. And not get sued in the process. :( Not that I am scared of being sued, but it is going to cost me more time and money which is no fun.

Denied

Well, I applied for myself for a bank account with a local bank that has secured cards available. I was denied. :( This is sad and was probably stupid for me to do since it pulls a hard inquiry on my report. But I wanted to see if I could get approved so I could get started with a local branch to build a relationship.

I'll have to wait till later to do this again, and make sure I am prepared for it.

***UPDATE***

I started thinking about credit unions and such, and remembered that I have been a member of USAA for over 9 years. They have a bank, lets ask them. I called up and found out that not only can I get a savings account but I can get a checking too and they are coming out with a secured card this year! OMG thank you lord!!! This is better than anything else!!

The envelope please.

Last night I printed out the final copies of all of our letters to every creditor (except one) that is on our credit reports.  Some I am still debating on if I am going to send them or not.

Here is a peek at what our PFD (Pay For Deletion) letter looks like.  We are sending these to legit creditors and collectors that we want to just pay and remove from the credit as soon as possible.

Re: Collection Account for Verizon Account #: XXXXXXX

Amount: $199.00

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to inform you that the validity of this debt is disputed. I am not sure of the account number, as I have never heard from you regarding this account. The account number I have is the one listed on my Experian credit report which omits the last few digits.

In the spirit of compromise, I am willing to pay this account IN FULL if you agree to immediate deletion of this account from any and all credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). The purpose of this settlement is merely to have this item removed from my credit files. It is not to be construed as an acknowledgment of liability for this debt in any form.

If you agree to the terms and accept this agreement, certified funds for the settlement amount of One Hundred Ninety Nine Dollars ($199.00) will be sent to AFNI in exchange for full deletion of ALL references regarding this account from my credit files and full satisfaction of the debt. As certified funds will be used for payment, there shall be no waiting period regarding the deletion of this account from the credit reporting agencies.

AFNI agrees to delete ALL information regarding this account from the credit reporting agencies WITHIN TEN CALENDAR (10) DAYS following receipt of payment as specified above and will not discuss the terms of this settlement with anyone, excluding your client on this account. Re: Collection Account for T-Mobile Account #: XXXX

Amount: $773.00

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to inform you that the validity of this debt is disputed. I am not sure of the account number, as I have never heard from you regarding this account. The account number I have is the one listed on my Experian credit report which omits the last few digits.

I pulled my credit bureau reports, and I discovered that you claim I owe you a debt. Under § 809 of FDCPA, send me validation of this debt.  Since I have just recently pulled my credit report I am only now aware of your collection acts on this account.  This puts me within the allotted time to dispute this debt.

As per the FDCPA I would like more than just validation of address.  AFNI needs to send me validation containing the original creditor’s name and contact information, debtor’s account number with original creditor, all debtors listed on the account, final amount owed to original creditor, your collection fees, date of last payment, and copy of the original signed contract between the debtor and the original creditor.

If validation of this debt is unavailable then you must remove all reference to the listed account and any payment history or monies owed from all three credit reports (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax).

If validation is provided as requested I will need THIRTY CALENDAR (30) DAYS to review the debt and make a determination of how it can be satisfied.  During this time period it is requested that no collection acts take place.  Hopefully then we can come to a mutually acceptable agreement for debt satisfaction.

Do not call in regards to this account.  If you have any questions please address all written correspondence regarding this account to:

I appreciate your quick response to this.  Thank you,

Feel free to use these if you like so that you can do the same.

I will be mailing these out to most of our accounts on Friday using a return receipt requested so I can verify the date they received them, and that they have.  I am not quite sure what I am going to do if I never hear back, or how soon I will send the next one.  We will see what happens.

A List of the "Others"

There are other credit reporting agencies out there, are you on any of them?  I am going to pull my and my husband's reports from all of them today to see what information is out there about us.  Because of the Fair Credit Reporting Act you are entitled to one free report from these agencies every 12 months.

Here is a list of all the agencies I have been able to find.  I will update this list as it grows.

Can you really get a free credit report online?

You cannot get the score, but every credit reporting agency (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax) is supposed to make available one free credit report a year for you.  Lots of websites claim they are giving you a free credit report, but they require you to offer up a credit card or debit card to get you to buy subsequent reports, as well as sign you up for some monitoring service you can later opt out of just to view the free report.

Now while these monitoring services are worth it, you really have to weigh what your option are, and what you are looking for at the moment.

www.AnnualCreditReport.com - This is one of the places you can get a truly free credit report from all three credit reporting agencies.  You will not get your FICO score, but you can get the report and begin the dispute process from there if you see anything that is wrong with the information.

What makes up the FICO score

Something very important I have learned over the last few weeks of reading and researching is how exactly your FICO score is calculated.  Knowing this can help you to work on the most important parts of your credit to get the fastest results, and later what you need to do to tweak things and get an even higher score when all things are positive.

Here is what makes up the FICO score, and how many points it adds.
You start at 350 points
35% (or 175 points) is 'payment history'
30% (or 150 points) is 'amounts owed'
15% (or 75 points) is 'length of credit history'
10% (or 50 points) is 'new credit'
10% (or 50 points) is 'types of credit'
Total - 100% or 500 points

Lets break this down:

Payment History counts as 35% of your score.  Any 30, 60, 90 day lates or charge offs will erode that 35% very quickly.  You want to make sure that payment history is clean and clear.  The longer time goes since a bad payment history makes it effect your score less, but it still effects it heavily.  If you have 30, 60, and 90 day late payments on an account you will want to send a "goodwill letter" asking the company to remove these late payments out of the kindness of their hearts.  It does not always work, but its worth a try.  Any charge offs you have you want to settle so that the account shows "paid in full" or "paid and closed".  When settling this charge off debt you want to contract with the company so they either remove the whole trade line or at least make sure the account shows correctly and the history is clean.

Amount Owed counts as 30% of your score.  This does not mean that if you have a million dollars in debt you will have a bad score.  It is all relative of how much your credit limits are.  For installment accounts and revolving accounts the closest your totals owed are to 10% of your available credit the better.  In fact if you can get your totals between 0-10% you will score the highest in this category.

Length of credit history counts as 15% of your score.  This means the average age of your accounts.  So if you have one credit card for 20 years, and 2 new ones less than a year, they are going to take the average, or 6.6 years, as your average account age.  The longer the better.  So do not be surprised if you open a new credit card, or buy a new car, and find your score drops.

New credit and inquiries count as 10% of your score.  Having tons of inquiries with no new credit will effect you negatively.  The good news is that if you try to get a loan for a car or home, and your credit is shopped around a lot, as long as its within a short period of time all of those inquiries will only count as one inquiry.  But if you apply for a bunch of store or credit cards trying to get credit you could be lowering your score by a lot.  Your best bet is to get a copy of your latest credit report and FICO scores before applying for any credit and take that into where you will be applying.  Most places can give you a "soft approval" based on that without pulling your credit, allowing you to have an answer before officially pulling your credit.

Types of credit counts for 10% of your score.  The FICO system wants to see variety.  They want to see you can handle responsibility over a wide variety of accounts.  To maximize this you should have a revolving account (credit card with a limit), an installment loan (initial balance paid off a little each month), a mortgage note, and a car note.

Maximizing every aspect of these sections will help to give you a score in the high 700's or more.

PLAN: January 2010

The plan for this month is to get all of the small accounts in some sort of contracted payment situation so they will be removed from our credit completely after being paid in full.  We are sending out letters to 1-10 of the creditors in the snapshot for January asking them to send us a signed agreement to remove their trade lines from our reports in exchange for payment.  This has been a successful technique for many people and we are hoping it will work well for us.

It does not remove a large portion of debt, only about $1500 or so.  But it removes a large number of accounts.  In fact it removes almost half of the negative accounts on our credit.  This will be a good start to all of this.  Once these are done we will focus on the next steps.  We hope to have agreements in hand by the end of January but that depends on how fast they respond to us.  We give them a time limit of ten working days to respond in order for our offer to be valid.

Next month:  We plan to open secured cards, as well as deal with any remaining accounts that have not responded to the initial payment agreements we are sending out.

SNAPSHOT: The Beginning

So lets begin by posting the bad stuff we have on our credit.  This list is a combination of both our reports.  Some are on both, but for the most part half is his and half is hers.  For privacy reasons I will not disclose which is which, along with the account numbers associated with these companies.  I will be posting snapshots each month to show where our scores are, as well as what baddies we have and what good trade lines we have developed or kept.

GOALS FOR NEXT MONTH:

We want to have deals worked out with accounts 1-10 to have them deleted if paid in full.  We have the money ready to do this and want to see these gone asap.  It will be half of the accounts on our credit and will remove a lot of negative items.

We were stupid

My husband and I were stupid.  Its a fact.  We had lots of money so credit never seemed like something we needed.  So we never took care of it.  When we were young we let things go, and only paid when the creditors got annoying enough to not ignore.  We knew their games, their empty threats, their tactics.  None of it mattered.  Why should it?  We did not need credit!  We had tons of money to buy in cash.  Credit meant nothing.

That was really stupid.  About 2 years ago I was contracting with a company for work regularly, and we based all of our lifestyle on that income.  Then the company I contracted for changed owners, and everything changed.  I no longer had contract work, and the businesses were not bringing in enough income.  My husband's income would cover everything, but just barely.  We have two leased cars, and a house, as well as a loan for some property we own...all in my mother's name.  We make the payments, but because our credit is trash we could not get the loans without help.  It was no big deal at the time.  But now its huge.

My mother also lost her job with that same contracting company and she could not make her part of the house payment (her portion cancels out her side of the taxes) so she let it go into foreclosure.  She is applying for modification through the new plan the president put into place but that is going no where.  Soon we will need to get a home in our own name, turn in the leased cars and get new ones, and rewrite the property loan we have.  This is going to take credit.

Its time to grow up.

So here is our credit, point blank.  And the future is all about rebuilding the past.  I am going to use every tactic I have read about to try and clean up the credit we have, and use the secured forms of credit to add to our existing history in a positive way.  We are determined to fix what we have walked away from in the past.
